Spokane Pest Pro - Mice Control Philosophy

Pest control companies handle mice control in several different ways. Many companies arrive, quickly set down poison stations inside, place bait stations outside, and tell the customer they will return in a month to check everything. They charge significantly for the initial visit, and they continue to charge high fees for those follow-up appointments.

Over time, the mice problem will likely diminish, but during those months, mice may continue to cause damage and contamination as they die inside the home from the poison they consume. They often die in inaccessible or unnoticed areas. The notion that mice leave the home in search of water before they die is simply not true.

Mice commonly die from rodenticide inside homes, often causing a terrible odor for three to four weeks while they decompose. During that time, maggots can also become a serious and unpleasant issue near the corpses.

We have a vastly different approach that is much faster, safer for the customer, a better long-term solution, and often less expensive due to fewer or no follow-up visits being needed.

Our Unique Approach

Step 1:

We will come in, discuss the areas where the customer has seen signs of mice activity, and determine the best strategy for your unique situation. We will set up the interior trapping stations. The interior trap boxes we use are the fastest and most sanitary way to catch mice in a home. Over years of experience, our company has developed methods to make these trap boxes even more enticing and effective. We frequently catch mice on the first day, even after other traps have been ignored for weeks. We will share those details with you before we set them up.

Once the boxes are placed, mice enter and are quickly eliminated. The boxes containing dead mice can then be easily removed from the house. We leave detailed instructions on how to handle the boxes, and we are always available to answer questions throughout the catching process and beyond.

On average, within four to five days, we will have caught all the mice in the home. It is not uncommon to catch all the mice on the first or second night after the trap boxes are set up. If necessary, we will also enter the crawlspace under your home to determine whether remediation efforts are needed there as well. Every home is different, but if we believe it is necessary, we are prepared to investigate the crawlspace. (For safety, we must have reasonable clearance and accessibility to enter any crawlspace.)

Step 2:

This is the entry point inspection of the outside of your home. There are many common access points, such as damaged weather stripping on the garage door or gaps around utility line entry points. However, there are many other potential problem areas where mice frequently enter as well. During this initial inspection, we will locate all possible access points. The inspection is extremely thorough.

As a side note, Kevin, the company owner, has extensive background experience that has greatly contributed to the development of our inspection process. He has a carpentry degree and has built and remodeled homes. He later became a licensed home inspector, performing both real estate transaction inspections and wood-destroying organism inspections. This background provides a strong foundation for understanding how a home should be sealed and makes it easier for us to identify unique problem areas and obscure or hidden entry points. We strongly believe that our mice entry point inspections are the best in the industry.

During the inspection, we will flag each problem area and are happy to walk with customers to show them our findings before moving on to Step 3.

Step 3:

This step involves making repairs. We will seal small issues, and if larger repairs are needed, those concerns will be clearly documented on the inspection form so the customer knows what still needs to be completed. We can seal many types of gaps, but we do not perform larger repairs such as fixing siding or trim, or replacing weather stripping.

Step 4:

We will set up exterior mice control bait stations. These stations are low-profile and typically placed in discreet locations around the perimeter of the home. They are heavy-duty, bolted to concrete anchor pads, and the bait is secured inside the locked station to prevent larger non-target animals from accessing it. Like most pest control companies, we have thousands of these stations in use, and we have found them to be extremely effective.

Mice bait stations are the best long-term solution for controlling the mice population near your home. Fewer mice mean fewer rodents running on outdoor furniture, BBQ grills, or entering parked vehicles. We recommend servicing the stations five times per year and will provide a written quote for that service, but we will never pressure you into ongoing services you do not want. (We often tell people, “If everyone realized how often mice get on BBQ grills to eat remaining food scraps, everyone would have bait stations. It’s disgusting, but an unfortunate reality.”)

When a customer follows our plan, our success rate for eliminating a mice infestation is 100%. The average time for the inspection and setup is 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The total cost to eliminate the infestation varies from house to house, but we can quickly provide a custom, detailed, zero-pressure quote over email. The average time to be mice-free is four to five days, and our mice control customers consistently leave 5-star Google reviews.
